Commandment of Mezuzah

"You wrote on the doorposts home gates, so they multiply your days and days of your children ..." (11, 20-21)

In portion Eikeiv presents the commandment of mezuzah. Write the chapter "Shema Israel" and "and it will be if you Hear" on parchment and set in the doorway.

Previous Rebbe said that when taken to prison, his interrogators asked him the first investigation: "Do you know where you are"?  The Rebbe answered: "Certainly, I am in place that does not need a Mezuzah. There are places that are don't need a Mezuzah, such as toilet and stall."

Why Choose the Rebbe to describe a negative description of a prison sentence (do not need a Mezuzah, like bathroom and stall)? Why did not speak the language of positive: a place of Divine Providence as any corner of the world? After all, the Rebbe was not impressed his interrogators and not attributed any importance, why he described the place as their side?

The answer is: the Rebbe wanted to win as well Mezuzah commandments of his stay in prison! Since there is no Mezuzah, the Rebbe chooses declare that, to express the mezuzah rules which state should not place mezuzah. Learning the rules of the mezuzah is considered as precept fulfilled.

Rabbi made to the prison has a relevance to Mezuzah.  House can attribute to Mezuzah by positive way, by setting Mezuzah all entrances of the house, or in a negative way, when he is exempt from Mezuzah. So the rabbi said his interrogators where they sit in, place that exemption from the commandments of mezuzah. By this Rabbi worked also be keeping Mezuzah in prison.

When the mezuzah parchment rolled up a door that says we see the letters ידש: it mean in Hebrew שומר – protection, דלתות – the doors, ישראל – Israel. Mezuzah protects the occupants of the house, not only when they're at home, but: "God always keeps your arrival when you leave - even when out of the house the mezuzah protect the home & his resident. We must try to act in the "Mezuzah campaign"; at every Jewish home will set up on every door a Kosher Mezuzah like the rules.
