Since the brain is limited, one can never grasp the essence of something with it. Therefore, one can't really grasp G-d unless he does a physical Mitzvah.We see that the Mitzvot are like a pipe to draw the light of G-d down to the world. However, the physical object of the Mitzvah covers over the light.
