When one accepts G-d as king over him, and follows all he says, especially at the time of reciting Shema, he is taking his soul out of the exile of impurity. This is what our sages said, that in every generation one has to see himself as if he left Egypt. This is why we mention the fact of the Jews leaving Egypt in Shema.
