Portion Vayechi

"And Jacob called his sons and said; gather together and I will tell you what will happen to you in the end of days" (49, 1).

Our sages of blessed memory say that: "asked Jacob to reveal to his sons the end of time and get out from the Divine Presence." Before he died Jacob wanted to reveal to his sons the date of the end of exile, the day children of Israel will be in the end of the exile and begin the days of the messiah. But the Divine Presence left him; G-d stopped him to find out this secret.

The question arises: Jacob's opinion, what use would be that the people of Israel would have heard then, only a few thousand years later would be redemption, as we know today, since the Messiah has not yet come. On the contrary! Such disclosure would bring the downfall of spirit among the people. Why, then, wanted Jacob to reveal to them the end?

Zohar says: If the people of Israel were entitled to be the redemption from Egypt by the king of messiah, the Messiah was put to eternal salvation to Israel. But that Israel did not deserve that at the time, so then we expect the coming of the messiah to this day.

By this we understand the Jacob. Jacob wanted to reveal the end of the Egyptian exile; the end will lead to eternal salvation immediately. He wanted to tell his children that if they will struggle to qualify, by adding a special Torah and good deeds, they can gain true salvation and completed during the Exodus from Egypt! Moreover, if you will struggle even more to hasten the redemption will bring it within a short time even more.

In practice, did not materialize the will of Jacob, because "the Divine Presence left him" The reason: There is no doubt the gospel of salvation by Jacob could indeed result in an awakening among the people and adding a brand in the Torah and commandments, and following this - perfect redemption. But then discovered a downside: the Torah and mitzvot inclusion was not due to a person's natural desire to free his choice, but due to comments of Jacob discovered the end. They would make the excitement and enthusiasm among the people, and this seemed enthusiastic person Yom Kippur prayers...

The G-d want that the Jews will struggle, on its own holy; step by step, until complementary. That redemption of Israel in exchange for the efforts of their own power, then will also be more complete real redemption.
